🌓 5-Day Baby-Friendly Madeira Itinerary: Where to Stay, Eat & Explore as a Family

Madeira might just be my favourite place on Earth. With sunshine almost year-round, flavourful food, warm hospitality and breathtaking landscapes – it’s the kind of place that wins your heart over and over again.

This trip was particularly special because we travelled not only with Mini (our baby), but also with extended family. And while five days is barely enough to scratch the surface, it gave us a perfect taste of baby-friendly Madeira – and left us already planning our return.

If you’re travelling with a baby or toddler, my best advice? Don’t try to pack in too much. Slow family travel is your best friend, especially in a place that deserves to be savoured.

👶 Where to Stay: Savoy Palace – A Luxury Family-Friendly Hotel in Madeira

If you’re planning a trip to Madeira with a baby or toddler, look no further than Savoy Palace. We’ve been to the island three times, and this was hands down the best hotel we’ve stayed at for both luxury and comfort.

From the moment we arrived, everything was thoughtfully arranged – no need to request a cot (it was already in the room), and even a baby bath was available, which was perfect since we didn’t bring ours this time.

We especially appreciated the hotel’s multiple pools, each offering a different vibe. The children’s pool quickly became our daily hangout, while the rooftop infinity pool gave us a chance for some adult relaxation while Mini spent time with his aunty šŸ˜

One standout feature for travelling families? The children’s food station – a well-curated buffet with nutritious baby and toddler-friendly options and some added treats. It made mealtimes so much easier and more enjoyable.

Although we didn’t have time to visit the Savoy Spa or the kids club, it’s definitely on my list for next time. If you’re looking for a family-friendly hotel in Madeira that doesn’t compromise on luxury, this is it.

🍽️ Where to Eat in Madeira (Baby in Tow)

The Madeira food scene has blossomed over the past few years, and there’s something for every taste — even with a baby in tow!

Don’t miss the two local dishes, espetadas – beef fillet grilled on laurel skewers & scabbard with banana. Whatever you do, don’t look at what the scabbard fish looks like as you just might change your mind.

Here are a few of our favourite baby-friendly restaurants in Madeira:

  • Vila da Carne & Vila do Peixe – Located in the fishing village of Camara de Lobos. They offer a free shuttle from Funchal, which makes it super easy with a stroller or car seat.
  • Audax – A stylish, modern concept with a creative menu and great cocktails.
  • Bar Filhos D’Mar – Casual and buzzing, perfect for a laid-back lunch with a view.

šŸ’” Mini tip: Always book in advance, especially if you’re travelling as a family or want high chairs or stroller-friendly seating. Most restaurants in Madeira are incredibly welcoming to children and babies.

šŸ¼ Baby-Approved Things To Do in Madeira

Madeira is full of fun, relaxing and cultural things to do — and many of them are baby- and toddler-friendly. Here’s what we did on our 5-day trip:

  • 🚡 Take the cable car to Monte and explore the lush Tropical Garden. Perfect for stroller walks or baby-wearing. Great shade and open space.
  • 🌊 Day trip to Porto Moniz to see the famous natural pools. We had a taxi that took us around the whole island but you could use Bolt to get there too. Make sure to bring a car seat
  • 🎨 Stroll through Funchal’s Old Town — especially the painted doors on Rua de Santa Maria. Very walkable and stroller-friendly (although a little on the bumpy side.)
  • 🍹 Visit Camara de Lobos for a relaxed lunch and a Poncha while baby naps in the carrier. It’s one of the most charming spots on the island.

These activities offer the perfect balance of exploring and relaxing – ideal if you’re trying Madeira with a toddler or baby for the first time.
